I think I have read Robert Benchley before, and the third piece in this collection, "Paul Revere's Ride" almost confirmed it. "April 17... Spent the evening looking around in the coffee houses. Everyone here is cribbage-crazy. All they seem to think of is cribbage, cribbage, cribbage."

Non sequitur seems to be his forte. A good thing, otherwise he might have really needed to deliver the goods in a graduation address baldly titled "The Decline of Sex". He weaseled out by ranting about fish: 'You won't find one fish in a million that has enough sense to come in when it rains.'

From "Fascinating Crimes": 'The police, on investigating, found the bread-box locked just as she had said, and so released Mrs. Omphrey.'
