Red finally comes on the scene:
__ If we smelled it, it'd have the scent of a horse. If it were a flower, it would smell like a daisy, not a red rose.
__ I'm not afraid of other colors, shadows, crowds or even of loneliness. How wonderful it is to cover a surface that awaits me with my own victorious being!
  • When it snowed on the fortress of Tiflis, the washerwomen sang songs the color of flowers and children hid ice cream under their pillows for summer.
  • We Ottomans, forever respectful of whatever is written, paid no heed to the amount of gold in each ducat - so long as the inscription remained the same -
It may well be so:
  • It happens to us all: In reaction to being overly logical we'll feed fantasies for weeks and years on end, and one day we'll see something, a face, an outfit, a happy person, and suddenly realize that our dreams will never come true.
  • The fact that he loved me so much made me trust him.
  • Marriage douses love's flame, leaving nothing but a barren and melancholy blackness. Of course, after marriage, love itself will vanish anyway; but happiness fills the void.
  • There's something so innocent in crying over one's troubles, as though they were another's.
