"Elligible"
Oct. 31st, 2016 04:29 pmCurtis Sittenfeld wrote a delightful update of "Pride and Prejudice", and makes me marvel anew at how sturdy the original creation is. Jane of course should be a yoga instructor now, and Kitty and Lydia foul-mouthed cross-fit devotees. Other nice twists include Mr Bingley being a reality TV star and Mrs Bennet having a shopping addiction. Alas, our modern day Lizzie and Darcy's chemistry is just above adequate. Breaking Wickham up into the odious Jasper and stolid Ham is a clever choice, but I am not sure that after Lady Catherine reincarnates into a feminist icon, what purpose she serves for the plot.
Bonus points for setting the story in Hyde Park in Cincinnati.
__ confidently difficult
__ The Bennets' antipathy toward one another was of such as intimate variety that it was almost affection.
__ multifaceted confusion (during the Pemberly meetup)
__ (Charlotte:) "Lizzie, nothing could bring me greater happiness than having you staying at my house, freaking out over a boy."
