fiefoeAccording to Wikipedia, Asimov started writing this series when he was 21. It shows, especially in the first book. Religion and capitalism solved the first two Sheldon crisis, and there was hardly any speaking parts for women.
The second one provided more surprises and the narrative strands were more complex. Even though the identity of the Mule was never in doubt, his final revelation was still satisfying. Magnifico's courtly language was also a welcome change from all the other plainspeaking folks in the galaxy.
