"Stranger in a Strange Land" [.]
Sep. 24th, 2011 12:14 amWhen I told him that "the man from Mars became a carni“ Andy thought I'd gone off my rails.
Why did Heinlein think the most interesting thing the man from Mars can do is to start a cult? I was watching some dubstep dance video earlier today and thought how good Mike could be at this. But he only got to understand 'pratfall (as) the peak of all human humor', which is sadly not the case.
The book went from being pretty interesting to bad when Gill said "Nine times out of ten, if a girl gets raped, it's at least partly her own fault.", and how she thought Mike would think homosexuality would be a 'wrongness'. Gah. And she went on to become a high priestess.
Keywords for the Martians:
__ not wasting food / canabalism
__ the people of the fifth planet (that they grokked)
__ undisplined nestling / discorporate
__ Mike having trouble parsing "Do you feel like breakfast?"
__ brotherly gesture from a female man
__ It was necessary to review the configurations of these many new events in order to fit them to himself, then cherish and praise them—lest they swallow him up.
__ Ownership, of anything, is an extremely sophisticated abstraction, a mystical relationship
Jubal waxing poetic on Rodin's 'la belle Heaulmiere' and 'The Caryatid Who has Fallen under the Weight of Her Stone' was maybe the last bit I really paid attention to. The last three discs skipped badly.

- Great artist.. can look at an old woman and.. force the viewer to see the pretty young girl she used to be.
- Growing old doesn't matter to you and me; we were never meant to be admired - but it does to them. {RH's gender views are dubious to say the least...}
- Abstract design is all right - for wall paper or linoneum. But art is the process to evoke pity and terror.
- Rodin died right about the time the world flipped its lid.
