"Guys and Dolls"

Damon Runyon made nice comedy of manners out of the outlaws and the insomniacs on Broadway. Interestingly enough, the most fatal of these stories (such as "Dark Dolores") are not caused by shootings.
- Broadway guys, such as will go to a party like this, are apt to just sit around and say nothing, and act very gentlemanly, because they figure they are on exhibition like freaks,..
- He realized he is already guilty of a very grave social error in shooting the parrot, and he does not wish to make it any worse.
- ... and saying she never thinks that Basil will take her seriously and really plug anybody for her, although she also says she appreciates his thoughtfullness, at that.
- Because when a guy goes around asking questions in this town people may get the idea he is such a guy as wishes to find things out.
- "I suppose," he says, "I owe you guys an apology for busting up your quartet when I toss those slugs at Louie the Lug?"
- Feet is now in the money and is a guy anybody can associate with freely.
- ...of course different guys have different names for dolls, such as broads, and pancakes, and cookies, and tomatoes, which I calim are not respectful.
- Personally I figure if she is not lying to him, she is at least a little excited when she makes such a statement to The Brain.
- We are expecting to see him with a few slugs in him, and both Big Nig and me are very angry to think that there are guys around who will use such instruments as a knife on anybody.
