"Not Quite a Lady", "Beau Crusoe"
Aug. 19th, 2007 12:21 amThis isn't Loretta Chase's most spectacular work, but it flows very well and earns a solid **** in my book. (The other two Carsington brother books, "Lord Perfect" and "Miss Wonderful" rate the same, but "Mr Impossible" is a ***.)
I enjoyed the misdirections: the house party with many eligible guests never came to pass; the romantic rival who always thought 'she needs guidance of a man' wasn't a bad egg after all. This is really a renovation comedy.

Carla Kelly usually manages without major misunderstandings between her couples by putting her leads through major pain and suffering - there was one hero who lost two toes during a winter mountain pass crossing - but this one is almost too much.
