*** Every bird you downed bore pebbles in its gizzard from a land the maps ignored.
George:
- George himself is never urged to speak the truth: this would imply that he needs encouragement.
- To his surprise, he finds that he is becoming the owner of a temper. To his further surpise, it makes him feel rather grown up.
- Somehow Mr. Disturnal made this growing precision imply an equally increasing confidence that the prisoner in the dock was there for the reasons stated in the indictment.
- His sequential thoughts lost their steady pace; they lurched, they plunged ahead, they followed emotional gravity.
