Kevin A. Ring's fulsome praises of Justice Scalia didn't do much favor for his idol. [Query: is soft sell a lost art?]

Scalia must have been in an exquisitely bad mood when he wrote his opinion on 'Martin v. PGA Tour, Inc. 2001':
  • ...a line of reasoning that does not commend itself to the untutored intellect.
  • It may well be that some amateur golfers enjoy trying to make the grade, .. (I hesitate to say that amateur lawyers may enjoy taking the California Bar Exam).
  • .. and if one assumes the correctness of all the other wrong turns the Court has made to get to this point - then we Justices must confront what is indeed an awesome responsibility... to decide What Is Golf.
  • the 1457 edict of King James II of Scotland prohibiting golf because it interfered with the practice of archery.
  • ...this Court's Kafkaesque determination... its Alice in Wonderland determination... its Animal Farm determination that fairness and the ADA mean that everyone gets to play by individualized rules which will assure that no one's lack of ability... will be a handicap.
