"The Finer Points of Sausage Dogs"
Feb. 27th, 2006 08:12 pmI failed to get through Alexander McCall Smith's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency", so finishing this one (on 4 CDs) gave me a completely unwarranted sense of accomplishment.
Fans characterize Professor Dr. Mortiz-Maria von Igelfeld's adventures as absurdist, and it's hard to argue with that. (E.g.: the good doctor took umbrage when a discussion of the symbolism of hedgehogs didn't go his way; one particular specimen of the titular sausage dogs got three legs amputated in one go; his owner's subsequent complaint, 'One shouldn't have to oil his dogs!') I just wish there were more of it, and on speed.
To be horribly and unoriginally ungrammatical - the 'doktor doktor' thing always tickles me, don't you?
