"Field Studies: Doctor Doorman" / Nick Paumgarten
"...the distinct ecology of the residential building, are shaped within the narrow shoals of too much closeness in a context of too much distance".

"When Pain Remains" / Jerome Groompman
The path an impulse follows determines how we experience it - as throbbing pain or dull ache. The process.. is like running "a different software program".

"The Zombie Hunters" / Evan Ratliff
"The botnet is the little engine that makes the evil of the Internet work. It makes spam work. It makes identity fraud work. It makes extortion, in this case, work."

I probably should have dug into John McPhee's "Coal Train" to learn terms like 'the armadillo', 'the shooters', instead of Jeffrey Eugenides's fiction "Early Music", which chronicles two ex-(musicology Ph.D)s' financial woes. 'Everybody's life was early music.' isn't much of a payoff.
