"Island of the Sequined Love Nun"
Feb. 17th, 2014 06:14 pmChristopher Moore started with a wacky premises, but mostly played it straight after that. The throwaway Hamlet parody bit was probably the most amusing part. I was slow to recognize that oh, it's not a literary novel.
- It was as if (these shrimp) had evolved to a certain point, then just couldn't make a decision to leave the water, grow into mammals, and finally invent personal stereos.
- The flashlights refracted off the green water, illuminating the tube, making it appear as if they were inside a giant seething Coke bottle.
- the sweet rasp of snoring children wafted through the woven grass walls like the sizzle of frying pork
- "I depend on my soaps to practice my sense memories. How do you expect me to play a goddess if I can't find my emotional moment?"
- The spear was still sticking out of the guard's skull like a gruesome note spindle waiting for a canceled receipt from the Reaper.
