3 regencies reread
Aug. 2nd, 2008 11:13 pm"Lord St Claire's Angel" / Donna Simpson
A rheumatic governess has the voice of an angel. The brother of the family is warned to stay away from governesses, and of course has to rebel against such stricture. The cover, with the doll-making detail fits the plot surprisingly well.
"The Hired Hero" / Andrea Pickens
A Duke's daughter hires an impoverished new Earl to escort her and a secret missive to London. Quite action packed, with sailing and coach hijacks, but the couple don't give off convincing sparks. (The third to last page still has the girl saying 'You must dislike me so much...')
"Lord Heartless" / Barbara Metzger
The notorious viscount has to enlist the reluctant help of a prim housekeeper in the neighborhood to take care of the 'bundle of joy' left on his doorstep. Said viscount is actually very sweet, and has a shaggy dog named Gladiator or Glad for short. The raid of his own house (occupied by his step-mother) for baby gear in the attic (including a rocking horse named Blackie for Clarissa's daughter) was cute. Too bad the last 2/3 of the story was all about distractions like her heel of a husband.
