Alfie puts on some weight and doesn't like it.

•  Somehow I find love has got a more tender flavour to it about that hour of the morning, dropping in as it does, quite sober, between one lot of dreams and another.
• I do like leaving a room empty and feeling it'll still be empty when I get back.
• It never seems to strike them that in the long run what a bloke didn't have might suit him far better than what he did have.
• Now a home's a very funny set-up. ... It's really a place for people who've got some kind of a private need for each other.
• I find I've got to watch myself lately, I get these funny strokes of feeling coming over me.
• (Of the social stratifications in London parks:) It's all very well ordered by the people themselves. They do keep themselves apart, I will say that for them.
• You can swing it from hate to love much quicker than from what they call indifference to love... Women don't really mind being insulted al that much - what gets on their wick is always being taken for granted. Course it don't work with every woman. Don't get that idea. It don't work with slow thinkers. They're still in that temper zone when you've moved over to the love zone. And it don't work with excitable women. They boil over and there's nothing left in the pot for love.
