The book starts with a reluctantly resurrected Filler Bunny begging to be stepped on and put out of its misery, and you know it's going to be fun.
Jhonen Vasquez adds small helpful notes to some panels. For instance, I would have thought Squee was holding a muffin on the way to school, but it's really 'teddy bear stuffing'. Squee's apathetic dad wasn't watching some medical show on TV, but 'video of Squee's birth played backwards'.
Other times it's just irrepressible asides. One can spot on Squee's wallpaper, among all the smiley faces 'I write on wall!'. Shmanky, the Learning Slug wears a T-shirt that says 'I Hate Salt'. In the third case, narrative mischief: 'For this scene, the part of Squee will be played by a little beaver looking thing.'
Squee has a new classmate who is the spawn of Satan: '(Father) is famous. His picture is o cans of tuna and on vacuum cleaners. I've watched as he fed upon the souls of the damned and corrupted the minds of the willing.' Next panel: 'My dog's name is Woofles." Other frequent guest stars include incompetent aliens: 'No more trickery, human! Hand over your insides.'
This strikes a chord: 'I'm facing.. THE WALL!! I must have rolled over in my sleep!! MY BACK IS EXPOSED!!! I'VE LET DOWN MY FORCE-FIELD!!!'
